Assigned is a bit confusing here. They both had daniels subscribed by
default. The assignee is only manually set.

The maintainer field is not used for anything, thanks to the lessons
learned from the former system and the inheritance of Maintainer and
other things which you all know about better than I do.

indeed, but there is no way for anyone to unsubscribe daniels. That is a
bug (but perhaps not a grave one). You can subscribe others, meanwhile,
and leave daniels being spammed until he unsubscribes.
