wishlist: public whiteboard on branch pages

If you consider a page like

I'm just merging in Carl's work; I'd like to add a note to that effect
on the branch page.  It would be nice if pages about long-lived publicly
interesting objects like this had, say, a 'status whiteboard' field, or
an append-only comment list or something.
