Previously, you would get explicitly subscribed to a bug--but not
assigned--if you were a bug contact.

Indeed. We are aware of how annoying significant this problem is. It's
being worked on alongside two currently big and high-priority LP 1.0
goals though, so it may be a few weeks yet before something lands in
production to fix it.
