And what would happen if a team member decided to hide his
mail addresses to avoid spam?  By your work-around, I could
ask him to provide me with an email address before approving
his membership, indeed.  However, how do I contact that team
member if he changed the contact mail address after joining?
Sure, I can remove him from the team and then he'll need to
contact me to know what happened...  ;)

Agreed, but at least team admins should have the means to
contact any team member, preserving members' privacy options.
