Hi all,
Thanks to everyone who attended yesterday's Launchpad users meeting!
These meetings are a great opportunity for anyone who uses Launchpad to
ask questions of and make suggestions to the Launchpad team.
User affecting issue
---------------------
"nathansamson mrevell: launchpad doesn't offer webpage hosting (with or
without php or somethin) is this planned?"
This is something that I'm going to discuss with Launchpad team to see
if we have any plans.
Other questions:
-----------------
"mman: how do I see what features are being worked on in order to decide
whether I want to become a beta tester?"
I'm going to look into the best way of handling this.
"Kmos: So long to do a little fix - Make suggestions from should use
prefered user settings"
Launchpad Translation developer Jeroen (jtv) replied:
"jtv: It's a good question. That particular bug was filed before I even
joined the company.
So why _does_ it take so long? I see several reasons:
The first is that it's a small team (was 2 people, now 3) and there are
many things to do.
And that means that doing one thing first means that another thing
waits, even if we think it's important or we'd love to get it done today.
As for this particular bug, actually making a drop-down menu do what
makes sense is the easy part.
The hard parts of this particular bug are: fitting the change into the
existing framework; doing it in the proper way so we can keep
maintaining it in the future; making sure it's all well-tested; and
perhaps most of all, going through all the existing tests that the
change will break, and making sure there's no unwanted breakage among
them. :-)"
"Kmos: When remove an attachment, remove also the comment entry"
Graham (gmb) a Launchpad Bug Tracker developer answered:
"gmb: This doesn't look to be a huge issue to fix, work wise. It's more
that with a lot of big changes going on recently in the bug tracker it
just hasn't been picked up by anyone.
Luckily I have time to spare in the next cycle :)
So I've targeted it for the release after this one."
"mikel: Is there any plan for tightening the relationship between
launchpad translations and upstream? (mikel)"
Unfortunately, no one was able to offer mikel an answer during the
meeting, so I'll ask my colleagues on the Launchpad team to offer one.
"jamesstansell: Launchpad is similar to some of the distributed
enterprise systems I've worked on over the years. Just wondering if the
design is publicly documented anywhere?"
Joey Stanford (Rinchen) answered:
"Rinchen: The design documentation has not been completely release at
this point. This is due to several factors.
The basic design can be inferred from the launchpad-suite project
https://launchpad.net/launchpad-project
If you were to inspect the front page project listing, that will give
you an idea of the components / projects that make up Launchpad"
Then suggested that I should look at a good way to represent this
information to the community:
"Rinchen: mrevell, this might be a good item to take away
mrevell, we should think about how better to represent this to the
community"
Unfortunately, the meeting logs end at that point. However, mman asked
whether Launchpad could be used to manage a distro other Ubuntu. As
that's quite a large question, I asked him to post it to the
launchpad-users list:
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/launchpad-users/2007-August/001945.html
Thank you to everyone who took part. I'll post the date of the next
meeting to this list and the Fridge events calendar.
