Currently it searches for products, "projects" (groups of products), 
and distributions. <https://beta.launchpad.net/+search?q=ubuntu>

In future the plan is to expand it to search for people, bugs, 
translations, and so on, though not necessarily all at the same time 
(there may be a menu or radio buttons for choosing the scope).

Yes. The application front pages are still being rearranged, and that 
in particular is something I'll fix in the next few days.

That is a table of information about the product/distribution. It 
shouldn't be there, and I'll remove it in the next couple of weeks.

The next time you find an example where this happens, please report a 
bug including the URL of the page.
