We have reduced everybody's Launchpad karma, to correct a bug in the way
that we calculated it.
Each day since we introduced the bug, in October 2006, we have added
extra karma to everybody's total. We're sorry that your karma level has
been incorrect over the past few months.
You can read more about the bug and why we reduced your karma at
https://help.launchpad.net/KarmaReductionJan07 If you'd like to ask any
questions, please feel free to.

Don't worry, we don't reduce karma for bad behaviour :) This was a
one-off mistake in the way that we calculated karma and the reduction
was a correction. Obviously we didn't communicate well enough about what
was going to happen and I'm sorry about that.
It's worth noting, though, that karma does decay slightly, over time.
This is to ensure that karma reflects how recent someone's work has
been.
As Matthew Thomas has said, elsewhere in this thread, we are working on
ways to make it easier to let you know about things like this.
