Launchpad bug statuses

And hey, it even works well! :)

Launchpad sure does give you enough rope to ... choose an alternative workflow.
Is there nothing that can be done to make the correct workflow more obvious?

I think the designed workflow is a good way to go.  The biggest problem is
discovering it.
