The main problem is that mplayer2 which is used by default in lubuntu is a 
broken build simply speaking. (tons of bugs) 
You could try installing mplayer (which is also available and gnome-mplayer 
can work together with it) and remove mplayer2 (when it isn't done 
automatically). 
This should then work much nicer.
