How can I get a simple, straightforward, non-GUI login sequence with no waits?

What I see in my computer, are many messages during GRUB loading, and
few messages during boot.

Things have changed now, Linux loads fast. You can also see the boot
messages at /var/log/boot.log.

I am not sure, if there is some configuration somewhere, to see more
detailed messages during boot, or not.
