At least for Lubuntu 12.04 and above its use lightdm as display manager
so you need edit the file /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf with some similar to:
[SeatDefaults]
autologin-user=<YOUR USER>
autologin-user-timeout=0
user-session=Lubuntu
greeter-session=lightdm-gtk-greeter
