Someone like me who is passionate about endangered languages like
Asturian will be happy to know that the Asturian translators are active
and are about to start a Ubuntu translation.

I see you've already followed Mark's pointers and created your
translation team. I assume Softastur already has mailing lists, but if
you ever need one, please ask for one at mailman-admin at lists.ubuntu.com.

[[ For context of other list members, Asturian, or Bable, is a Romance
language spoken in some areas of the Northwest of the Iberian
Peninsula, including areas of Portugal where it's called Mirandese.
Estimates say there's about 100.000 people with Asturian as their mother
tongue, and about half a million, according to the Wikipedia, are able
to understand it. This, for a language in an area so influenced by
Spanish, probably means death in just a few generations, but people like
Mikel and others in Asturies are doing all they can to keep it alive,
and even promote it in their society, including writing an official
grammar, dictionaries or newspapers.

A Free Software related fact about Asturian is that in the early days of
Mozilla, when even the Spanish team hadn't produced a usable
translation, an Asturian translation already existed, and I know people
that for a while used the Asturian translation to avoid English, as they
could understand it a lot better. :) ]]
