installation of nvidia drivers

yes, but they still won't be part of our base installation.

We can just import the debian packages or do our own. The main issue with
nvidia packages is the kernel module, that needs some investigation for
proper distribution. I personally don't like the way debian does it,
distributing an entire nvidia-kernel. It would drive Matt crazy for
security related issues.

Not the autodetection part, but once the drivers are installed a simple
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 will show the nvidia driver as available
and the user can select them without any problem.
