Some points/issues to discuss about the desktop

You generally don't back up the Desktop folder (which is a special folder),
you back up your Home folder. Indeed, to get a useful backup, you have to!
Thus, just like OS X, all these kinds of useful folders (Desktop, Photos,
Documents, Music, and others) should live directly inside the Home folder.
