Hi,
I have faced a dma problem during the installation
process, i.e when files were copied on the disk, the
system crashed and I could read at the end of dmesg
some messages talking of hda dma error.
The problem comes from my MB which do not support the
dma mode I think. To solve this I had to suppress the
via82cxxx ide chipset module (in expert mode you can
choose to load it or not) because when it was loaded I
could not change the dma settings with hdparm.
But it can not be removed after the ide modules have
been loaded and the discs detected.
So I only loads the ide-generic module and all works
fine for the rest of the installation.
But at the system reboot, the module is still present
and I can not figure out how to remove it.
It is not present in /etc/modules so I guess it is
stored in initrd.
Do you know how to prevent the system to load this
module when it loads the other ide-* modules ?
