I guess it's still no better solution for Ubuntu users than
already existing code even if Fluendo's decision to do what
they've done is honorable. As recently explained,

seemingly won't be signed by Canoncal for Ubuntu.
Still, this seems indeed a present. Thanks Fluendo!
