A dude called Joel from SA pointed this story out to me tonight:

  "By the time Longhorn ships, Shuttleworth says, a sizeable number of
  people will be considering open-source alternatives. Even if, by then,
  people still don't regard Linux as mature enough for their desktop
  computing needs, they may simply choose to continue using older versions
  of Windows while evaluating their options. Eventually, he insists, they
  will move to open-source software."

Nice story for anyone interested in the grand plan. ;-)
