How can Sun require you to have its consent to help me (by providing a
tool) download software I'm allowed to download without your help?

Some, but not all, participants may speak for Ubuntu or its sponsor,
Canonical.
I'd like to see Java in Ubuntu; if not Java then at least jre. There are
some problems other than the fact Java's not FOSS. There has been some
discussion about it in this thread.
If you are able, could you get someone to discuss Sun's side with
someone representing Ubuntu? Make, Matt Zimmerman and (especially) Mark
Shuttleworth are probably good people on our side.
