You can't do it automatically with thunderbird, to my knowledge. You
have to do it manually (i.e. edit the To: and Cc: boxes). This is a bit
of a pain, especially if (as seems to be the case) you insist upon
writing one reply to each specific mail in this enormous thread, but it
would be very helpful to avoid spamming the recipients.
