Linuxant only provide proprietary drivers for Conexant chipset based
modems. They in no way represent the majority of software modems. Intel
and lucent probably represent a bigger percentage, and they have not-so-bad
linux support, with lucent providing some of the most stable and reliable
closed-source drivers and the intel chips mostly work with both open and
closed source drivers.

AFAIK, the plan is for the intel chips to migrate to the GPLed alsa driver,
with the open source driver getting all the support the closed source one is
currently getting.
