I agree with you that the evidence is anecdotal, and far from conclusive,
however, the point remains. Linux uptake is increasing. This can only come
from Windows and Mac OS. As there are basically very few Mac OS users, it is
logical to suppose that the new users are coming from Windows. I would guess
(here this is my opinion), that most would be like the family members I have
moved to Ubuntu, relatively inexperienced. They moved to Linux because:
a) cheaper
b) security
c) stability
In all those cases (more than ten), they moved without me advocating Linux to
them, they came and asked me. Many people really are interested in a change.
As to the numbers or percentages, I would not even hazard a guess.
