'Ubuntu takes on XP in the gadget arena'

Robert,

I have no doubt you have experienced freezes and BSODs in XP. I am in a
different environment from you so I would expect differing results. Our
builds are standardized and tested long before they are deployed, and we
run a variety of applications (also tested). We have applications
crash, but not the XP OS itself. That is our experience. I'm sorry it
don't match yours.

Some of my worst experiences have been with Linux on bad hardware.
Linux wasn't bad, the hardware was.

XP is evil for it's own reasons, but stability, at least in "my"
environment is not the source of that evil.

By the way, I would love to throw constant examples of BSODS at my
fellow co-workers with whom we often have friendly jousting over our OS
prefrences. Unfortunately, there are no examples to throw.

Instead, I use Linux type tools (like Cygwin) to demonstrate how
different Linux/Unix command can be linked together to do incredible
things. (And there is always the ssh redirection tricks or netcat
fun). It is possible to give them a taste of Linux, even within our
Windows centric environment

I do have experience with a development XP machine (out side of the
environment) that does shut down slow and the Twin View utility must
sometimes be killed manually. Is that enough to make you happy? :-)

I don't care if XP runs forever, bad reliability of XP isn't why I'm
into Ubuntu!
