Right, Windows can do one of three things:

* Log in a particular user after booting up, no questions asked.
* Provide the login screen where a user clicks his picture/icon, then
is prompted for password
* 'Traditional' login that requires pressing Ctlr-Alt-Delete, then
entering username and password.

GDM/KDM can do most of those too I think, just not force the alledgedly
security enhancing key combination. :)
