Hey, I didn't say audio couldn't be useful. I once went round and
round with IBM over a PC Server 315 that couldn't take any kind of
sound card. Their position was "nobody needs sound on a server." Mine
was "here I am, customer, spending lots of money, I want sound on my
fracking server bad enough that I called you to complain."

What we wanted was to add an audio alarm to one of our monitoring tools,
because the server was where our helpdesk folks could hear it and they
were bad about ignoring emails and popups. So we wanted a really loud
alarm that only the admins knew how to stop, with the speakers locked in
a rack so they couldn't just turn them off, as a backup in case the
paging didn't work. Ended up using a PC for the monitoring server,
instead of spare capacity on the backup domain controller like
we wanted.
