Thunderbird's default is to send HTML mail.
My suggestion would be to just get over it. mutt renders html mail fine,
as do most cli clients. HTML was big in like what - the 80s? just live
with HTML mail, so what if some people want formatting, if you care enough
to complain, surely you care enough to configure whatever client you use
to render html to text properly.
