Since you are part of "we" then go for it! No one else is taking the
initiative.

That's up to the mods on ubuntuforums.org.

The mailing lists aren't moderated (at least not most of them anyway).

Login for what? The forums? I don't see that changing much.

The forums work quite well. No one on the lists (that I'm aware of)
has bothered to take the time to pist FAQs or anything related. There
is a whole slew of "howtos" on the forums. The problem is the
developers, not the forums.

How could the doc team make a difference? EasyUbuntu and Automatix
automate the process of installing software. It's software that's been
documented all over previously. The scripts just make it easier to
install.
I've frankly never used them and still ended up with problems. In my
case, I feel there needs to be a "Christian Marillat" for Ubuntu. In
other words and official Ubuntu developer (@ubuntu.org and all) who also
writes unofficial packages, maintained in his own repository. Right now
there are at least *two* "unofficial official" repos for various
multimedia related stuff. Much of whats in both is duplicated.
