I once bought a Compaq (after they were taken over by HP) with Linux
(Mandrake) preloaded on it. They do seem able/willing to do Linux
pre-installs instead of Windows, I wonder why the deal with Ubuntu
didn't go through.

But: Then you still have a distinctly un-cool looking HP desktop that
happens to run Ubuntu. While it would definitely be nice to have, it's
not QUITE what I meant. It would have to look 'different',
distinctive, personal, or dare I say, "humane". :)

Yikes. Those look and feel even uglier than HP. :) I'd rather start
with an Apple ibook/powerbook or something that looks like it and paint
it brown. (Or Silver-orange, Dapper style.) :)
