Subject: Winders, OSX, and Ubuntu - native on MacBook

My boss lady spent a weekend night armed with a fellow
geek that works for her and some vodka. 3 hours later,
she had Windows XP running native on her MacBookPro.

(scroll down to "Installing Windows XP on my MacBook
Pro")

She brought it in to work and impressed us all. I came
by in the afternoon to see it and casually mentioned
that it would be interesting to see Linux on there,
and that I had a Live CD of Ubuntu handy. They said it
wouldn't work because of the EFI architecture. I said,
"Why don't we pretend that we're too ignorant to know
it won't work".

As I'm not on the same floor, she decided to download
a 380MB bzipped ISO. A few minutes later, we're booted
into Ubuntu and quickly figured out that unlike
knoppix, you don't go straight into the GNOME
interface and that it assigned a 192.168 address to
eth0. We showed her how to use startx and dhclient and
she was going to broadbandreports.com to do a NIC test
in short order. 14Mbps down and up, not too shabby,
and better than the native OSX performance for which
the box was built it the first place, plugged into the
same cable.

Makes me wonder if my next box will be a MacBookPro.
