They are saying that its better to use free systems as much as possible. They
are not saying that it is morally wrong not to do so, merely that there is a
better approach (or at least that is my understanding). It is a philosophical
stance.

Not at all. They are saying that launchpad is non-free, in the free speech
sense. Thart is true. How can you argue with it?
