Help with log in problem

First I'd suggest you to ask for support on ubuntu users mailing list

Second, I suspect a video driver problem or Xorg problem, instead of
authentication problems. Try pressing Ctrl-F1 at login screen, which
will switch you to a blank terminal console, where you can try log in
with user name and password. If this works, try
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude dist-upgrade
to upgrade to the latest packages which may have a fix for your problem.
If this still doesn't work, try the ubuntu users mailing list of the
forum suggested above.
