I admit that I didn't took the time to read it since I dismiss each and
ever "linux desktop lacks innovation" article as a troll immediately. In
addition, anyone giving credibility to MS's ridiculous patent extortion
scheme gets extra troll points :)
I simply think it's an utterly ridiculous argument. There is a LOT of
innovation on the free software desktop, and it's out there to try, see,
e.g., http://xwinman.org/
Shortlist: Ion, Sawfish, larswm, ratpoison, and so on and so on. All of
these have little in common with Windows, or MacOS for that matter.
On the other hand, there are many window managers and desktop
environments that aim at being not too different from what people know,
like Gnome and KDE. Still, there is lots of innovation there, both do
many things that Windows cannot do.
If you choose to use a desktop that resembles Windows somewhat, then
that is your choice, and it's trollish to claim the free software world
for your limited imagination.
And in addition to all that, there is lots of innovation on the free
software desktop beyond wm. Or have you ever seen a unified package
management with easy to use install/uninstall tools on either of those?
I thought so.
Thumbs up to Groklaw, yet again :)
