A few hundred dollars for what's effectively a self-replicator? Not bad!
Have you seen these? They're getting more news coverage.

It's a self-replicating 3D printer that uses plastic. Less risk of
taking your fingers off than a lathe ;-)
There are people distributing these in places like Afghanistan. (Can't
find link.)
