I've gone overboard in my comments in the past but in general it how I
feel about thing. This is a touchy subject for me because my life was
almost destroyed because of the Christian church. Which in turn is
why I'm so hard on Republicans and Conservatives, of which their
majority is Christian, or at least they claim to be Christian.
Basically, the church turned my wife, now my ex, into a nutcase. So
much so that even her own family turned their backs on her for a long
time. My life with her was a painful one, I watched the woman I loved
become someone who expressed pride in being "Born Again", yet became
someone who was unpleasant to be around for too long. It wasn't just
her, our entire church was like that and the politics and infighting
was tearing it apart from the inside. I got out of the church and
things got worse from there. Eventually my wife and I separated and
divorced two years ago.

Basically, I watched as my church and most of the Christian church in
this country abandon reason for madness. Interestingly enough, the
Bible itself warns about this sort of thing. The total abandonment of
reason and compassion.

I have a unique personal perspective on the direction the Christian
church has been heading for a good long while. Its a direction that
leads it away from the teachings they preach so vehemently and towards
something that's inherently "evil". Go to any major restaurant on a
Sunday afternoon when church goers flock for lunch after morning
services. Their behavior, for people who supposedly "Walk with God"
is absolutely abominable. They focus too much on religion and not
enough on being decent human beings.

This is why I'm against "most" Republicans and Conservatives because I
know how they think and act. I'm glad I got out of the church when I
did. I know not every Christian has become a raving lunatic, and not
every church has lost sight of what's really important, but they're a
small minority these days.
