Um. I find that a rather scary statement, myself.
Surely the environment matters more than the people? Without a healthy
environment to live in, said people are going to sicken and die
anyway. Any notions of "human rights" or anything are necessarily
subservient to preserving a healthy environment for said people to
live in; there is absolutely no point in a right to do anything
whatsoever if you can't breathe, have no clean water to drink or food
to eat.
It's a widespread view but it's a foolish one, like the many loud
idiots who protest that environmental measures will harm the economy.
There *is* no economy without a world to live in. If we're all dead or
end up back in a pre-technological, pre-civilisation lifestyle, the
economy dies too.
