I don't know that there's a specific drive to do that, but as the 
process is much more open than it has been, all that's needed is a 
couple of motivated developers.  The "powers that be" with commit access 
on freedesktop.org have been very accepting of new developers and random 
patches.

However, with only 256 MB and 768 MB of swap (is that MiB or MB?), I 
have a hunch that running LO would be a struggle.  At least until there 
is more parity between the resource demands of LO and what is offered by 
the N900, I don't think that would be a good idea.  (An aside of my own 
is that I don't yet see why word processors, in general, need to consume 
so much memory.)
