Ha!

I don't think it's that, but to be fair, things like
[Flux|Open|Black]box etc. aren't really desktops. They're just window
managers. If you get a menu to launch apps from, that's luxury. Forget
file managers, drive icons, wastebins and things like that.

There was Fluxbuntu but it seems to have died (from lack of interest?)

There's Crunchbang, which is /very/ Spartan, which got quite a lot of
interest but has decamped to a raw Debian base for the latest version,
10.0. (Which means it no longer works with my Ethernet or Wifi devices
for my circa-2000 Thinkpad, so it's stopped being much use to me.)

I'd quite like to see a WindowMaker-based Ubuntu remix. I've even
considered building one myself, but I currently lack the skills. The
Ubuntu repos already contain a fair bit of WM software - various
docklets and so on - and I think WindowMaker looks great, myself. I've
hand-rolled one myself in a VM a couple of times (once based on 10.04,
once on 10.10) but the integration is very poor - as far as I can see,
WindowMaker's app menu is incapable of picking up the
currently-available apps in the Debian menu, let alone the Ubuntu
application menu. I'm not aware of any WindowMaker-based distros out
there, whereas various distros support Xfce, LXDE, Enlightenment,
Fluxbox, OpenBox, IceWM and so on.
