Is Ubuntu Unity up to specs

Hi, team,

I’ve been using Ubuntu and been part of its community for so many years
I’ve lost track.

Thank you all for your incredible work to produce our favoured OS.

I’ve never stopped using Unity since Canonical launched it originally.
I’m now using Ubuntu Unity.

For quite a while now, I’ve noticed that my experience with this
official flavour is not as good as I expect it to be for an official
flavour:

  * Annoying bugs are found with every new release, some being show
    stoppers like Lightdm refusing to load Unity (24.10), or the
    computer not shutting down when asked to from the notification area
    (25.04). Official release on not properly tested, or do not pass
    expected release criteria;
  * The Ubuntu Unity team doesn’t pick up bug reports on Launchpad,
    addressed to them personally;
  * Even though Martin Wimpress created About the Ubuntu Unity
    Development category
    <https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/about-the-ubuntu-unity-development-category/2048>
    on discourse.ubuntu.com eight years ago, the Ubuntu Unity doesn’t
    use it, which is counter-intuitive for users;
  * Instead, the Ubuntu Unity team created a discord.com channel
    <https://discord.com/channels/692542606743175178/712700092695576596>
    where Rudra Saraswat’s last post is from 3.5 years ago. There, some
    try to remedy the total absence of support resources online for this
    official flavour.
  * https://ubuntuunity.org/ doesn’t publish any relevant information to
    their user community;
  * Ubuntu Unity decided not to release 25.10 as explained on
    https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/questing-quokka-25-10-release-status-tracking/68886
    by mclemenceau “Unity decided to not release their flavour because
    they were not going to be ready.”  That fact was not announced by
    the Ubuntu Unity team to their community, neither on
    https://ubuntuunity.org/ nor on their X account
    <https://x.com/ubuntu_unity>.

Unity remains a great desktop environment. I guess that you have an idea
of how many people use it. This user base deserves to be offered an OS
that consistently meets the Ubuntu Technical Board’s criteria for an
official flavour, including proper bug handling and resolution, punctual
releases, as well as community support.

I ask the board to look into the matter, and ask the Ubuntu Unity dev
team to up their game, help them to if you can.

Looking forward to reading from you,

Kind regards,
