After a bit of struggling with the autofs/ldap/nfsd configuration, found out that after restarting 
services in order ldap then nfs then autofs, users were able to log-in. And that autofs should be restarted after 
the network manager.

Still not sure what caused the problem, but AFAIC problem solved.
