Running ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver development branch

Onboard onscreen keyboard pipe | button produces a backslash character.

My /etc/locale/gen has
en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8
en_ZA.UTF-8 UTF-8

My keyboard layout that I selected at install time (if that makes any
difference) is generic english US keyboard.
