OK, I've added some more checks into the eSpeak code.
Does this problem still occur with eSpeak 1.21.07, from
http://espeak.sf.net/test/latest.html
Gilles, are you sure that the Gnome eSpeak driver calls
espeak_Initialize() before calling espeak_ListVoices() ?
