edgy not working on laptop

I can't run Edgy with speech on my laptop even when I run Ubuntu Live 
and then try to run Orca.
It works on my desktop although I am still confused about some of the 
questions asked about keystrokes and if I need to logout, I can't seem 
to be able to do that CTRL ALT delete to do it or even have speech to 
enable me to access the menus to be able to logout.
