a question about 9.04 and orca

Hi, My 9.04 system is working pretty good, but I do have one problem. I enabled the root account and Orca. Orca comes up fine, but the alt and f1 keys don't seem to bring up the menus when in the root account. The same with alt and f2. Orca reads the desktop with the arrow keys, but the rest of the keyboard doesn't seem to work. Has anyone else noticed this?
