Orca in 9.04

Have yu boot using the accessibility profile? (by pressing f5 and
selecting screen reader)

If not, Pulseaudio might be your problem, or perhaps your Vmware
configuration for audio support. Does Orca work fine in a live session?

I can not reproduce your problem in a live session with the
accessibility profile option.
