I do have one further question with Oneiric though.  BTW Luke, thanks 
for the quick reply, and maybe you can answer this one too.  Is there 
any way to make a sound play once the lightdm screen appears?  I almost 
have to put my laptop to my ear and listen for the hard drive to stop 
spinning, in order to know when I can type my password.  If there is a 
simple work around, I would greatly appreciate it.
