How may I get beyond this point? If not, please let me know where to do so. At any rate, I just tested installing using the build from 8/5/2021. The good news is that the installer itself seems at least somewhat accessible out of box, and it appears that it should definitely be possible to improve the UX from an accessibility standpoint. However, as things currently stand, I was unable to complete the install using Orca. I ran into a stumbling block almost right away on the language/keyboard selection screen. For some reason, Orca reported all options as being greyed. I assume this was not accurate; However, I saw no way to determine which options were actually selected. I also didn't see an easy way to get to the Continue button on this screen without perhaps tabbing several hundred times to get past all the localization/keyboard options. Usually language selection uses two color sets one different from all others on one of the choices. The other thing language selection usually does which I find far more accessible is to place sets of brackets left of each item one of which contains a star and the rest contain blanks. The one with the star is the selected language. To move the current language use the up and down arrow keys but those only move the highlight. To select press the spacebar. I can arrow through the languages, but for some reason, it's reading all of them as greyed. Maybe there's something else going on here but not sure what. I haven't gotten far enough for anything else to break yet. 😉 Another issue is I can't seem to use flat review and Orca isn't telling me which option has the star, even with punctuation set to all. I'm wondering if there is a glitch going on with this live image. Maybe I'll try a newer one. -----Original Message----- From: Jude DaShiell Sent: Sunday, August 8, 2021 11:34 AM To: Al Puzzuoli ; Ubuntu-accessibility at lists.ubuntu.com Subject: Re: Feedback on the New Ubuntu Installer That's odd. Try hitting the spacebar on one of these or the enter key if that fails. Also, what happens if you tab right through the language selection and leave it alone? Does the system complain that a language wasn't selected? On Sun, 8 Aug 2021, Al Puzzuoli wrote: > Interesting. Will the installer be accessible with Orca in the LTS-version 22.04 as in 20.04? It's possible to run a kickstart file from a remote website and I did that earlier and got a working ubuntu system running. This is also encouragement for blind linux users and others needing accessibility to get involved with local linux user groups. The better organized groups have an install day once a year where Linux installations get done for people. It will be the experts in those groups doing the installs so they'll be working and effective once done.
