uluga instalar Alien

Tengo aline ya descomprimido, ( no sé como lo hice!). Ahora mi pregunta de acuerdo a las instrucciones de su manual es como me convierto en "root" para luego instalarlo?.
Las instrucciones del manual son las siguientes:
 
To try alien before installing, just run ./alien.pl from this directory. Most
features will work prior to installation.

To install alien, become root and type:
    perl Makefile.PL; make; make install

To use alien, you'll need a variety of other software. See the README for
details.
