uluga Instalacion de modem en Xubuntu 6.10

Hola gente,

soy nuevo en esto y afortunadamente me informé bastante antes de
instalar y lo pude hacer con bastante éxito. Instalé Xubuntu 6.10 y el
problema llegó cuando intento instalar el modem. Con scanModem todo
bien. Me detectó mi modem:

Luego bajé el driver q me decía: pctel-0.9.7-9-rht-6.tar.gz y cuando
corro el setup en el Terminal me tira este error:

El make.log q generó el setup dice sólo esto:

Cómo sigo? En el FAQ dice q mande esto a una lista de Linmodem en
inglés pero mi inglés no es tan bueno cuando llega el momento de
escribir... Alguien me puede ayudar?
