Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
The Ubuntu package has a patch included to fix a segfault with a GUI slider. This is fixed upstream.

pioneers (0.11.3-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream security release (Closes: #449541).
  * Fix bashism in init script (Closes: #447379).
