Dear MOTU release team,
I'd like to request a Feature Freeze exception for package apt-xapian-
index. The current version in hardy is 0.4, while the current version
in Debian unstable is 0.6.
This is a new package introduced in hardy (doesn't exist in gutsy or
earlier releases), the only reverse dependency is ept-cache, so the risk
is relatively small.
I don't know much about this package, but from what I can see, the
version in hardy doesn't work at all. There are two crash bugs reported
against it in LP (bug #178726 and bug #194731). I have confirmed that
the new version in Debian unstable fixes #178726, and the reporter of
#194731 says the new version fixes that bug as well. In my opinion it
would be best to just sync the new version in Debian instead of trying
to apply individual patches, since we are still before Beta release.
The requested information for FF exception reqeust will be attached.
Since it's a native package, the debian/changelog entries are provided
as upstream changes.
I've built the 0.6 version in a hardy pbuilder and installed it on a
hardy system. It fixes the crash for me, and seems to be working fine.
