How to connect to bigpond?

Hi Andre,
I did as you explained.
I put POP, mail.bigpond.com and my use name into Evolution.
Then I tried send/receive and I got the following error:
"Could not connect to mail.bigpond.com: No route to host"
Any idea what is wrong?
One thing is funny though.
I could not find a place to type-in my password into Evolution?
Do I need to provide any passwords?
On Microsoft Outlook Express I have to provide password to my account.
...by the way, I can't send/receive email on Windows if I have this magic "Telstra meter" inactive, which (as I now understand) is an equivalent to "bpalogin" (is that correct?).
Coming back to bpalogin.
I have downloaded a file called "bpalogin_2.0.2-6ubuntu1_i386.deb".
Aparently it must have been an installation program.
Ubuntu recognized it on my windows desktop and installed it.
It is funny though that bpalogin disappeared after that without any trace.
And of course, it DIDN'T ask me for any passwords either.
Is it meant to be like that.
I wouldn't expect that Ubuntu automatically searches my Windows installation and magically figures-out any password.
HELP!, HELP!, HELP!, HELP!
Please, don't make me go back to Windows.
Switching between Ubuntu and Windows is painfull enough.
Cheers,
Robert

I have already explained this to you, Robert.
You are on ADSL cable. So switch on your Router/Modem and start Ubuntu. Ubuntu will make the ethernet link automatically. If it does not we will help you further.
For Evolution, your mailserver is POP, the mailserver's name is 'mail.bigpond.com', your account username is 'your email address', your password is 'your password' and the outgoing mailserver name is ' mail.bigpond.com'.
You do NOT need the BigPond installation disk.
Cheers,
Andre
